Women in Europe

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts helps girls and young women to develop leadership and life skills, so that they can become self-motivated, responsible and active participants of their local communities and at all levels of society.

By becoming a member, or by supporting WAGGGS, you can help us change these facts:
    • Only 18.4% of members of national Parliaments in Europe are women
    • 25% of all women trafficked for sexual exploitation world-wide are estimated to be from Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union
    • Sweden is the only country in Europe where women form 50% of government, proportional to their percentage in the population, compared to 10% in Portugal and 6% in Hungary
    • Women far out-perform men at school and university but they still have more difficulty finding a job.  In the EU, 21% of young women are unemployed as opposed to 18% of young men
WAGGGS is helping change the role of women throughout Europe.
