Participants needed for online leadership course

13 April 2012

Applications for the course are now closed.

Young women can now apply to participate in a new e-learning trial that will allow them to take a WAGGGS leadership course over the internet this summer.

WLDPRunning from 14 June to 22 July this year, the trial will allow them to take initial steps into their leadership journey while helping WAGGGS to explore how it could use e-learning technology in future. The trial course will use the Wagggs Leadership Development Programme (WLDP) as its foundation and will cover topics such as understanding leadership, leading others and advocacy.

Applications are now open until 20 May 2012. Participants will use digital technologies to facilitate discussions and team working with other young women across the world.

This is WAGGGS’ second trial of e-learning technology following a first trial in March, in which young women from each of the five WAGGGS Regions connected with each other online to work in groups, hold discussions and complete tasks.

WLDP posterWAGGGS is exploring e-learning technology as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the University of Reading in the UK. The KTP is an initiative funded by the UK government to create relationships between universities and organizations to share knowledge.

As part of this project, WAGGGS has developed a prototype e-learning platform. The trial runs allow WAGGGS to assess our progress so far and make any necessary improvements. We thank all participants for their time, support and feedback.

Applications can be made  through the online application form. Participants will be chosen to ensure that the individuals involved are those who will get the most benefit from the opportunity.

Participant criteria

Applications close on 20 May 2012. To be eligible for the trial, applicants must:

  • Be comfortable using the internet to access resources and read materials in English
  • Be comfortable using the internet to work and communicate with other participants in English
  • Have adequate internet access to allow them to join an online community regularly
  • Have adequate time to commit to the course and meet weekly deadlines
  • Have no previous WLDP experience
  • Have a basic knowledge of practical leadership (no theoretical knowledge required)
  • 16 or above at the time of the event

Participants will be able to access the flexible course in their own time; there will be no specific times when participants must be online. However, participants will be expected to work within weekly deadlines.

We look forward to working with many young women, so please apply or encourage others who could benefit from this opportunity.
