Youth Law passed by the Latvian Government

Latvian Scouts and Guides help make history for young people in Latvia
The 8th May will be a historic day for Latvian Youth Organizations as a new Youth law has now been passed by the Latvian Government. Since the mid-nineties, the Latvian Youth Council, with the support of the Latvian Scouts and Guides, has been working on the development of a Youth law in Latvia, to ensure there was legal recognition for the different participants in the development of youth policy, and a legal basis for supporting youth organizations.
The Latvian Scouts and Guides have been actively involved in all processes of the development of the youth law –believing it to be really important to be in the place where decisions were being made about young people.
Although the Youth Law has now been passed, the Latvian Scouts and Guides, together with other youth NGOs, will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Children and Family Affairs to ensure that the law is implemented; and to lobby for a bigger and stable budget line to ensure the Youth law will work.
