Development of the movement:
The Israel Boy and Girl Scouts Federation is composed of six component Associations: the Hebrew Boy and Girl Scout Association, the Arab Schools Boy and Girl Scouts, the Israel Arab Boy and Girl Scouts, the Israel Greek Orthodox Boy and Girl Scouts, the Israel Catholic Boy and Girl Scouts and the Israel Druze Boy and Girl Scout Association.
Scouting is Israel in much older than the State of Israel itself. It dates back to 1919 when Scouts visited Palestine and encouraged other interested people to form a Scout Association.
Girl Scouting plays a special role in the life of the country, and the programme emphasises training in the service of the state and its people. The Federation has worked at developing national and political awareness, fuller involvement in community life, closer co-operation between minority groups in the different Associations, more self-government and a wider range in the older age group. Much attention has also been paid to developing programmes for the Ranger/Rover age group, the result of which has been an increase in Ranger/Rover membership.
Girl Scouting among underprivileged children has increased, and over 30% of the membership comes from low-income communities. Girl Scouting among the disabled in all the Component Associations has also increased.
Relationship to society:
Community activities for the Ranger/Rover age group include the establishment of small groups which spend a year (between leaving school and undertaking national service) in development towns, giving service to the community and helping with Girl Scouting and Scouting activities in youth clubs, kindergartens and schools.
Many groups of Rangers/Rovers go to kibbutzim as part of their national service.
Communication and Cooperation
Members of the Associations are encouraged to form their own international contacts by corresponding with other Girl Guides/Girl Scouts throughout the world.
The Federation publishes an illustrated magazine, Heye Nachon (Be Prepared) which contains news and information about Girl Scouting in Israel.
Outdoor and Environmental Activities
All the Associations incorporate regional camps and cross-country hikes as important parts of the programme. Members are encouraged to participate in tree-planting campaigns whenever possible.
