Guides and Scouts at the Nordic World Ski Championship in Oslo

Nordic World Ski Championship in Oslo, 23 February-6 March 2011

During the FIS Nordic World Ski Championship in Oslo, 23 February-6 March 2011, the Guides and Scouts in Norway were responsible for hoisting and lowering the National flags of the 57 participating countries.

There were 100 flagpoles that required the hoisting and lowering of the flags over the 12 days that the Championship lasted.

The Guides and Scouts solved this challenge by establishing a Guide and Scout Camp, named CAMP FLAG, located close to the flagpoles, just outside the ski arena.  50 guides and scouts stayed in tents for a minimum of three days each.  By the end of the Championship a total of 200 guides and scouts had participated in this event.

This was a great example of wintertime Guiding and Scouting, and a golden opportunity for guides and scouts from all over the country to experience the Championship up close.

Falgies in Norway

The Guides and Scouts have done a fabulous job and have been noticed by staff and visitors, as well as having received significant media coverage (television, radio and newspapers).

A special winter experience.
