WAGGGS’ Global Action Theme (GAT) focuses on the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), eight specific goals to be met by 2015 that aim to combat extreme poverty across the world.

WAGGGS encourages everyone to take action and change the world around them and 20 Member Organizations have made the commitment to ‘champion’ the GAT within their country and region. These ‘GAT Champions’ have contributed to the development of the GAT resources. They have worked on MDG topics in the past and have agreed to work with the GAT programme in a big way with their members.

Of the 20 Associations worldwide, 5 Associations in Europe were awarded GAT certificates of appreciation during the 13th European Guide and Scout Conference held in Brussels, Belgium in July 2010. These Associations are; Girl Guides Association of Cyprus, Det Danske Spejderkorps (Denmark), Soma Hellinikou Odigismou (Greece), Federazione Italiana dello Scautismo (Italy)
